Markets Update:

Shares in APAC were mixed on Thursday afternoon following an overnight slip on Wall Street after the closely-watched 10-year Treasury yield touched its lowest in more than a year. Recession fears sent bond yields in Australia, New Zealand and Japan also lower. Continued uncertainty over Brexit also weighed on investor sentiment.

Australia’s ASX 200 rose 0.6 percent, with almost all the sectors seeing gains. The Hang Seng also gained by 0.35%. The Nikkei 225 in Japan dropped 1.6 percent in afternoon trade as index heavyweight Fanuc saw its shares tumbling by more than 1 percent. The Topix index also fell 1.7 percent. Mainland Chinese stocks were also lower, with the Shanghai Composite lower by 0.8 %, and then Shenzhen Component by 0.7%.

An offer by British Prime Minister Theresa May to quit to get her European Union deal through parliament failed, leaving uncertainty hanging over the Brexit process.

Oil prices nursed modest losses after data showed U.S. crude inventories grew more than expected last week as a Texas chemical spill hampered exports.
